To transfer files, open WSFTP and create a new site. This is done by clicking File and then click on New Site. It will ask for some information the first time you connect to us. It will look like much like the image below.
Create a Site Named: Interweb
Host Name/Address: your URL (usually www.yourdomain.com or ftp.yourdomain.com)
User ID: is the username that you have registered with. If you are on the e-Commerce plan, the username is preceded by interweb\ i.e. interweb\jsmith Password: the password you requested to have with Interweb Interactive
Check the following boxes: Save Password, Save Account, Passive mode.
The rest is left blank.
Click Save
Click Connect
After a few seconds, you should see a series of folders and files on the left and right. One side is the server (Remote System), which is on the right, and the other is your computer (Local System), which is on the left.
To download files:
1. First look at the remote system side (Interweb) and highlight the file(s) or folder(s) you would like to send to your computer (Local System)
2. On the local system side, select the folder you would like these files to be placed into. Often, people create a downloads folder and place all downloaded web pages here for editing or viewing.
3. Click the middle arrow that points to the direction you would like the files to go. In this instance, we will be downloading so it will be the arrow pointing left toward local system.
4. Once these files are on your computer, you may edit them. When you are finished editing, upload them back to the server by reversing this process. As a rule of thumb, you should always download the entire web site, edit it, and then upload it back. This will prevent you from overwriting any changes we have made for you (in the event that we maintain your site).
Note: If you are using a different FTP program other than WS_FTP, the steps are very similar. The important part is that you know the hostname, username, and password.
